Regular vs Irregular Verbs

In English, verbs change form to show past tense. Regular verbs follow a simple pattern (add -ed), while irregular verbs change in unpredictable ways.

Regular Verbs

Regular verbs add -ed to form past tense and past participle:

Rules for Adding -ed:

Most verbs: add -ed → play → played
Verbs ending in -e: add -d → love → loved
Verbs ending in consonant + y: change y to i, add -ed → study → studied
Short verbs (CVC): double the last consonant → stop → stopped

Regular:

I walked to school yesterday. (मैं कल स्कूल गया।)

Irregular:

I went to the market. (मैं बाजार गया।)
She has written a letter. (उसने पत्र लिखा है।)

Tips to Remember

Regular verbs are easier - just add -ed
