Adjectives

Adjectives are words that describe or modify nouns and pronouns. They give more information about the qualities, characteristics, or attributes of people, places, things, or ideas.

Types of Adjectives

1. Descriptive Adjectives (Quality)

Describe the quality or characteristics of nouns.

  • beautiful - a beautiful flower
  • tall - a tall building
  • intelligent - an intelligent student
  • delicious - delicious food

2. Quantitative Adjectives

Indicate quantity or amount.

  • some - some water
  • many - many books
  • few - few people
  • all - all students

3. Demonstrative Adjectives

Point to specific nouns.

  • this - this book (near, singular)
  • that - that car (far, singular)
  • these - these apples (near, plural)
  • those - those houses (far, plural)

4. Possessive Adjectives

Show ownership or possession.

  • my - my phone
  • your - your bag
  • his/her/its - his book, her car, its tail
  • our/their - our house, their school

5. Interrogative Adjectives

Used in questions.

  • which - Which book do you want?
  • what - What color is it?
  • whose - Whose pen is this?
