Present Perfect Continuous Tense

The Present Perfect Continuous is used for actions that started in the past and are still continuing or recently stopped with visible results. In Hindi, this is like "रहा हूं/रही हूं" with duration (2 घंटे से पढ़ रहा हूं).

Structure

Positive: Subject + have/has + been + Verb-ing

Negative: Subject + have/has + not + been + Verb-ing

When to Use Present Perfect Continuous

1. Actions Continuing from Past to Present

  • I have been studying English for 2 years. (मैं 2 साल से अंग्रेजी पढ़ रहा हूं।)
  • She has been working here since 2020. (वह 2020 से यहां काम कर रही है।)
  • It has been raining all day. (पूरे दिन बारिश हो रही है।)

2. Recently Stopped Actions with Visible Results

  • I'm tired because I have been running. (मैं थका हूं क्योंकि मैं दौड़ रहा था।)
  • Her eyes are red. She has been crying. (उसकी आंखें लाल हैं। वह रो रही थी।)
  • The ground is wet. It has been raining. (जमीन गीली है। बारिश हो रही थी।)

3. Emphasis on Duration

  • How long have you been waiting? (तुम कितनी देर से इंतज़ार कर रहे हो?)
  • I have been trying to call you all morning. (मैं पूरी सुबह से तुम्हें फोन करने की कोशिश कर रहा हूं।)

Time Words

  • for - के लिए (for 3 hours, for 2 years)
  • since - से (since morning, since 2020)
  • all day/morning/week - पूरे दिन/सुबह/हफ्ते
  • how long - कितनी देर से
  • lately/recently - हाल ही में
